CCDN 231 - Sensory ethnography

Folding clean washing
Touch:
A range of different textures from a soft comforting feeling to more of a rough bristle one. The soft materials from clothing such as shirts some pants and sweatshirts feel like they relax the hands as they are being handled. Rougher material such as towels can give a tingling feel when swiped through the hands.

Sight:
Different colours, sizes, shapes, with a range of textures. From just looking at an item that is about to be picked up your mind almost makes up the feeling of it before touching it from past contact with the object and its material.

Sound:
When flicking and shaking the different types of clothing they can sound dense with a snapping like sound.

Taste:
A sweet but bitter taste from the washing powder used.

Smell:
Chemically sweet lavender scent sometimes the beach sand and salty scent still.

Using Razer gaming mouse

Touch:
Depending on the temperature it can be a cold gripping but smooth feeling.  When my hand is rested over the gaming mouse It relaxes and fits perfectly molding to the shape having each one of my fingers in comfort. A rougher texture can be felt on the sides with six buttons on the left that restrictively move when brushed with my thumb. When in use it has a very smooth touchy feeling that is consistent.

Sight:
Has a very ergonomic look to it that’s inviting to the user with its curves and grooves. Sleek red and black look that glows red every 10 seconds in the shape of the Razer gaming logo on the top.

Smell:
Plastic scent but not a fresh plastic smell from a new purchased item. It is basically unnoticeable.

Sound:
Sharp clicking that has a high type of pitch to it. Using the wheel it each time it rolls over a tad it has a restricted knocking noise that sounds deep and dense like it’s prevented from continuously spinning and scrolling.

Taste:
Because of the smell is so unnoticeable the taste is the same.

Grating cheese

Touch:
A restricted feeling that a reasonable amount of force has to be applied at an angle to the grater that gets easier at the end of the stroke. The object its self is rough but smooth in parts that are cold when held around the body of it. Holding the object feels awkward when applying pressure against it.

Sight:
The repetitive motion of the block being forcefully rubbed against the rough surface, peeling the cheese into thin long lines.
The cheese grater being shiny and reflective but also a dull look in areas. Red coloured geometric shapes at the top making up the handle. Rectangular object that is bigger at the bottom and has different slits in the metal on all four sides.

Smell:
Fresh smell of grated cheese that gives off the feeling of being hungry that makes me want to grate with a faster motion.

Sound:
The sound of the plastic rapper around the cheese crinkling with the soft peeling sound of the grated cheese as it falls in the middle of the grater. The thudding or clinking as the grater can collide with objects when being used.

Taste:
More of the cheese that makes my mouth water slightly.

MDDN 211 - Pain

Pain

I used a few jump cuts and quick overlays using opacities to set the emotion in the video of pain. I have timed it in with the music beat to flash through at a certain time. Through out the video it has a wide range of clips jumping fast between various crashes. The start has an opening of showing different riders and tricks that they are landing but though out the clip really shows how much they go through to archive it.

MDDN 211 - Romance

Romance

Used after effects again at the ending clip to and an overlay with the boy riding his bike and a fade in of the boy riding his skate board that is feathered into a heart. It shows how the boy has progressed into skateboarding giving up riding his bike but the love and memories are still there.

End of the clip is a memory of how happy he use to be riding his bike.

Romance

A lot of the transitions through the video were cross dissolves. Each of the parts of the clips were timed with the music with spinning or the clip changing and slowed down creating the mood.

Editing

In my first video humour i found that parts of the footage i was using the audio had some funny sound effects that could be used. I have faded in and out the audio at perfect moments for funny sound effects.

MDDN 211 - Idea change

Idea change

After talking more the tutors about my theme and the emotions or types of video i want to show i thought that i would change my idea as making an action, and advertisement are to similar related to skateboarding. I have decided that i will make a humour, romance, and a pain.

MDDN 211 - Proposal

Proposal

The theme that i am looking into doing is skateboarding. Skateboarding has been around for a long time now originating around the late 1940's and progressed over the years breaking into different styled movements. I would like to use vintage footage to create the three different videos as the different range of captured footage makes it interesting and gives the viewers an insight of what the sport use to be like.

The three different styled videos that I have thought about doing are an action, humor, and romance. I also thought strongly about doing an advertising one depending on how other styles work out.

Action

This would be built up with a large amount of quick shots changing showing different views and what can skaters can do on their boards.  A slow motion clip could be displayed at the end or near the end for a nice ending clip to slow it down before finishing giving the viewers a “whoa” effect. As a transition between clips 6 different clips could be displayed at once then zoom in on the main one before quickly changing through the other ones.

Humor

A range of funny bails some sped up making them look different with soft transitions between. Could be followed up with showing how safety gear is needed or tips on how not to ride the skateboard. Incorporate text such as “Tip one, Tip two…” with some explanation on what not to do.

Romance

Slow paced clips swapping between the skateboards its self and the rider. Use the cutting between scenes and soft transitions to show the relationship between the rider and his/her board. If colours are involved use bright happier colours. Outro could get with a heart getting smaller or bigger on the object or the rider showing their love for riding.

Slower paced clips and a wide range of what can be done with a skateboard, and how much fun can be had.  Cut scenes between the footage of showing skateboarders, the cut scene footage explaining the skateboards themselves.  Cross over transitions between clips making the video very smooth.
